In noticing how security conscious our lifestyles have become, I attempt to trace the nature of these securely controlled areas that we encounter living in Johannesburg. Whilst at the same time acknowledging that this physically controlled space reflexively imposes control upon the same society which patents its necessity. Suburban communities in Johannesburg may protect their families and assets with motorised gates which open by remote control. On this remote control one would usually find an alarm button, a panic button and a gate button.  The back of the remote sculpture evokes a cityscape. When standing up it could also be read as a primordial relief sculpture reminiscent of the ancient Egyptians or Greeks. The sculpture suggests a sinister secretive character which becomes alien or primal and can be likened to protection precautions.
